Steam Heating System
Water in the base is boiled into steam that heats the bowls above, so the unit can both reheat food and cook it from raw.
The Madoec GQU Electric Lunch Box is an useful steam cooker with quality doubts, best for office workers without a microwave. Rated 2.5 out of 5 across 89 user ratings. The main drawback: real power draw is far higher than the 40-watt rating. We scored it 2.3 out of 5.
This GQU lunch box can genuinely cook rice and steam eggs away from a kitchen, not just warm leftovers, but it is slow compared with a microwave, draws far more power than its 40-watt rating suggests, and at least one of its "stainless" bowls rusted after a single use.
NoFussDeal rates the Madoec GQU Electric Lunch Box 2.3 out of 5 at $29.99. Last updated October 5, 2026.

Unpack the bowls, egg tray, spoon and measuring cup, and check the stainless bowls for marks. Hand wash them in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly before first use.
Put food in the bowl, leaving some room at the top. For rice, add rice and water to the bowl; one owner found a 1:1 ratio suited jasmine rice.
Use the measuring cup to add water to the heating base. More water means longer steaming, so follow the manual's amounts and adjust with experience.
Set the bowl in place and close the lid so the steam stays in and heats the food evenly.
Plug into a 110-volt outlet and leave it to steam. Reheating takes longer than a microwave, so start a little before you want to eat.
Unplug when the food is hot or cooked through; for rice, a timer helps. Open the lid away from your face and lift the bowl out carefully, since steam and steel stay hot.
Only for some buyers: we score it 2.3 out of 5. The GQU lunch box steams leftovers better than a microwave and can cook rice and eggs from raw, which makes it useful at a desk or campsite.
Rated 2.5 out of 5 across 89 user ratings, with 26% giving it five stars and 52% one star.
Real power draw is far higher than the 40-watt rating. One owner's bowl rusted after its first use.
Hand wash the bowls, tray and accessories after each use. Wipe the plastic shell with a damp cloth.
Start with equal parts rice and water in the bowl for white rice, then adjust. Set a timer the first few times so you learn how long your batch needs.

The GQU lunch box steams leftovers better than a microwave and can cook rice and eggs from raw, which makes it useful at a desk or campsite. Its slow heating, a real power draw far above the 40-watt rating, and a report of a bowl rusting after one use mean you should check the bowls carefully on arrival.
Worth considering if you want a small steam cooker that makes a proper meal without a kitchen and you can live with slow heating. Inspect the stainless bowls when it arrives, and choose a lunch box with a better material track record if durability matters more than versatility.
