Roku 43-Inch Select Series 4K Review: Easy 4K Streaming With a Durability Question

Roku's 43-inch Select Series (model 43R4C5) is a 4K LED television with Roku's own software built in, sized for bedrooms, home offices and smaller living rooms. It supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, runs at 60 Hz, and comes with the enhanced voice remote, Bluetooth Headphone Mode and AirPlay. Picture and setup are its strengths. The part worth thinking about before you buy is not what it does on day one, but how it holds up over the first months.

TL;DRThe Short Answer: Is the Roku 43-Inch Select 4K Worth It?

Roku's 43-inch Select gets the everyday things right, with a sharp 4K picture, quick setup and a home screen anyone can use, but durability is the open question. Some sets have failed within months and screen failures draw the most complaints, so keep the box through the return window. It supports HDR10+ and HLG, not Dolby Vision.

NoFussDeal rates the Roku 43-Inch Select 4K 4.3 out of 5 at $179.99. Last updated September 27, 2026.

What Stands Out

  1. 43-inch 4K UHD LED panel with a direct LED backlight, a glossy screen and Roku Smart Picture, which picks the picture mode for what you are watching.
  2. Supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, so 4K streams and broadcast HDR play in their high dynamic range formats.
  3. Roku home screen with 500+ free TV channels, rearrangeable apps and automatic software updates.
  4. Enhanced voice remote with personal app shortcuts and a lost remote finder, plus control by Roku Voice, Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant.
  5. Dolby Audio speakers rated at 20 watts with speech clarity, and Bluetooth Headphone Mode for private listening.
  6. Three HDMI ports, optical audio out, USB, Ethernet and an ATSC antenna tuner, with a 300 x 300 mm VESA wall mount pattern.

Strengths and Drawbacks

What works

  • Sharp 4K picture with vivid colour, clearest from a desk or bed a few feet away.
  • Supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, covering streaming and broadcast HDR.
  • Quick setup, with the remote pairing itself and on-screen activation steps.
  • Simple, rearrangeable Roku home screen with free live TV and automatic updates.
  • Enhanced voice remote with personal shortcuts and a lost remote finder.
  • Speech-focused Dolby Audio speakers and Bluetooth Headphone Mode for quiet viewing.
  • Light at 14.4 pounds and wall mountable on a 300 x 300 mm VESA bracket.

What does not

  • Reliability and screen durability draw mostly complaints, including failures within months.
  • Wi-Fi connection and the Roku phone app can be unreliable on some sets.
  • No Dolby Vision; those titles play in HDR10 instead.
  • The speakers can sound flat, and film and music fans will want a soundbar.
  • The feet screws are very tight and the feet sit far apart, so check your furniture width.
  • 60 Hz panel, so it suits casual gaming rather than high-frame-rate play.

Features in Depth

4K Picture, HDR10+ and HLG

Resolution 4K UHD HDR Formats HDR10, HDR10+, HLG Refresh Rate 60 Hz

The 43-inch panel is 4K UHD with a direct LED backlight, a glossy finish and a 60 Hz refresh rate. It supports three HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. HDR10+ adds scene-by-scene brightness information, and HLG is the format live broadcasts use, so sports and events streamed in HDR are covered; Dolby Vision is not supported, and those titles fall back to HDR10. Roku Smart Picture cleans up incoming signals and chooses a picture mode automatically, and picture quality draws steady praise for sharp detail and vivid, true colour. Presets still matter. One owner found the sports mode made football pop but left faces a little too bright for other programmes, and switched back to the Roku Smart Picture setting. As with any direct-lit budget LED set, HDR highlights will not have the brightness of a premium panel, and the glossy screen shows reflections from lamps and windows. At this size, the extra sharpness of 4K is clearest from a few feet away, which suits a bedroom, desk or kitchen better than a large living room.

Roku Home Screen and Enhanced Voice Remote

Operating System Roku OS Voice Assistants Roku Voice, Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant Screen Sharing AirPlay 2, Miracast

Roku's software is built in, so there is no separate streaming stick to buy. The home screen gives you a grid of apps you can rearrange, free live TV and 500+ free channels, and it updates itself automatically. The enhanced voice remote searches across apps by voice, lets you set personal shortcuts to favourite apps and has a lost remote finder for the sofa cushions. It runs on two AAA batteries. The star button opens picture and sound settings over whatever is playing, which one owner found was new compared with their other TVs. The TV also works with Roku Voice, Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, and AirPlay 2 and Miracast let you share video, photos and music from a phone or tablet. When the set is idle, Art Mode can show paintings or your own photos. The remote draws praise for being simple and responsive, though one owner found it a little too sensitive. The free Roku mobile app doubles as a backup remote, but one owner found it slow to connect to this set, needing several attempts.

Dolby Audio and Bluetooth Headphone Mode

Speaker Output 20 W Audio Dolby Audio Private Listening Bluetooth Headphone Mode

Sound comes from speakers rated at 20 watts with Dolby Audio, and Roku says the Select Series is designed for clear speech and louder sound. Dialogue is where that shows. One owner who struggled to hear speech on an older 43-inch set finds voices clear on this one, while another describes the sound as flat and plain even with the bass boosted. Both are fair: small TV speakers can be tuned for intelligible voices, but they cannot produce deep bass, so anyone who cares about film soundtracks or music should plan on a soundbar, connected through HDMI or the optical output. Bluetooth Headphone Mode sends audio to wireless headphones or earbuds so you can watch without waking the house. Once paired, one owner found the TV reconnects their earbuds automatically and remembers separate volume levels for the speakers and the earbuds. Another found some Bluetooth headphones, taken out and put back in, switch to playing audio from a phone rather than the paused TV, a quirk of how headphones juggle devices.

Ports, Setup and Long-Term Reliability

HDMI Ports 3 Weight 14.4 lb VESA Pattern 300 x 300 mm

Connections cover the essentials: three HDMI ports, an optical audio output, a USB port, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus an ATSC tuner for antenna channels and a V-Chip for parental controls. Roku lists Game Mode and variable refresh rate, but with a 60 Hz panel this is a set for casual console play rather than high-frame-rate gaming. At 14.4 pounds it is light enough for one person to carry and set up, and it mounts on a 300 x 300 mm VESA bracket. The feet are the fiddly part: their screws are very tight, and one owner avoided stripping them by driving each screw halfway in, removing it, then fitting the foot. The feet also sit far apart, and one owner bought a pedestal base to fit their furniture, while another found the fixed power cord meant choosing a larger wall mount. The bigger concern is longevity. Reliability and screen durability draw mostly complaints, including sets that stopped working after a few months and screens that failed within six months, and connectivity is mixed, with some sets struggling to stay on Wi-Fi.

How We Scored It

Based on
The manufacturer's published specifications and the product's live Amazon listing.
Owner rating
4.5 out of 5 on Amazon, recorded September 27, 2026
How we score
We score each thing that comes up most in owner feedback on the Roku Smart TV. Eight things come up most in owner feedback: five draw praise, one splits opinion and two draw mostly complaints. Its ratings average 4.5 stars (80% five stars, 9% four, 2% three and 9% one or two), so every score starts at 90, that average on a 100 point scale. Where opinion is split, we take off 6. Where it draws mostly complaints, we take off 12. Then we read eight owner reviews in full (every one we found gave it four or five stars) and move the score up to 5 points either way depending on how the owners who mention it rated the product. Our overall score starts from the same 4.5 star average and loses 0.1 for each thing that draws mostly complaints, with 0.1 more when at least a tenth of ratings are one star, never more than 0.3 in all. Here that takes off 0.2, which gives 4.3. Read our editorial standards

What Buyers Say

Picture quality, easy setup, the remote and the simple Roku home screen draw consistent praise, and most people are watching within minutes of opening the box. The sound is clearer than many budget sets, though some find it flat. Connectivity is mixed, with Wi-Fi drops and a phone app that can be slow to find the TV. Reliability and screen durability are where the complaints gather: some sets stopped working after a few months, and screen failures within the first half year come up more than once.

Setting It Up

  1. Fit the feet carefully

Lay the TV face down on a soft surface. The feet screws are very tight, so drive each one halfway into its hole, back it out, then fit the foot and screw it in fully to avoid stripping the heads.

  2. Check the furniture width

The feet sit near the ends of the TV. Measure your stand before placing it, or plan for a wall mount on a 300 x 300 mm VESA bracket.

  3. Power on and pair the remote

Pull the battery tab from the remote and plug in the TV. The remote pairs on its own and the screen walks you through activation.

  4. Connect and update

Join your Wi-Fi, or use Ethernet if the TV sits far from the router, sign in to your Roku account and let the software update before adding apps.

  5. Set picture and sound

Start with Roku Smart Picture, then press the star button to try other modes. Turn on speech clarity if dialogue is hard to follow.

Common Questions

Does the Roku 43-inch Select Series support Dolby Vision?

No. It supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. Titles mastered in Dolby Vision play in HDR10 instead.

Is 4K worth it on a 43-inch TV?

Mostly if you sit fairly close, as in a bedroom or office, where the extra detail is easy to see. From farther away the difference narrows, but 4K streams also carry the best quality and HDR most services offer.

Can I use wireless headphones with it?

Yes. Bluetooth Headphone Mode sends the sound to wireless headphones or earbuds, and once paired the TV reconnects them automatically and keeps a separate volume for them.

Is it good for gaming?

For casual play. It has Game Mode and three HDMI ports, and Roku lists variable refresh rate, but the panel runs at 60 Hz, so it cannot show the high frame rates newer consoles support.

Can it be wall mounted?

Yes. It uses a 300 x 300 mm VESA pattern and weighs 14.4 pounds. The power cord is fixed, so check that your mount leaves room for it at the back.

How reliable is the Roku 43-inch Select Series?

Most owners have had no problems, but reliability and screen durability draw the most complaints, including sets that stopped working after a few months. Keep the packaging and test everything early while the return window is open.

The Verdict

4.3Out of 5

Roku's 43-inch Select Series does the everyday job very well. The 4K picture is sharp and colourful, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG cover streaming and broadcast HDR, and the Roku home screen and voice remote are about as easy as smart TV software gets, with most people watching within minutes. The speakers favour clear dialogue over depth, and Bluetooth Headphone Mode makes it a thoughtful bedroom TV. The reservation is durability. Reliability and screen durability draw more complaints than anything else, including sets that failed within months, and Wi-Fi can be patchy on some units. Most owners have had no trouble, but the pattern is clear enough to plan around. Buy it for a bedroom, office or smaller living room, keep the packaging, test everything early and check the feet fit your furniture.

Who should buy it

  • Bedroom and home office viewers
  • Anyone who wants the simplest possible smart TV software for a household with mixed ages.
  • Streamers who want HDR10+ and HLG support in a smaller 4K screen.
  • Existing Roku users who want the same home screen without a separate stick.

Who should skip it

  • Buyers who need Dolby Vision or a bright, premium HDR picture.
  • Gamers who want more than a 60 Hz panel.
  • Anyone who cannot easily return a TV if it fails in the first months.

A sharp, simple 4K Roku TV for smaller rooms; buy it with the return window in mind.
